A new vision for agriculture
momagri, movement for a world agricultural organization, is a think tank chaired by Christian Pèes.
It brings together, managers from the agricultural world and important people from external perspectives,
such as health, development, strategy and defense. Its objective is to promote regulation
of agricultural markets by creating new evaluation tools, such as economic models and indicators,
and by drawing up proposals for an agricultural and international food policy.

Some 2,500 participants from 90 nations will meet in the Canadian city of Quebec from October 6 to 9, 2014 to attend the International Summit of Cooperatives. Innovation will be at the heart of the major topics covered, including food security.

As pointed out by the Summit organizers, food security represents quite a challenge in a context where it is already difficult to increase farmland acreage, with a world population expected to reach nine billion people by 2050. “Over 32 percent of cooperatives are working in agriculture and agro-food worldwide. They are active in every link of the value chain, from production to the consumer table.” For this 2014 version, “The Summit will address several issues: Improving productivity, increasing competitive advantages, safeguarding the supply chain and curbing speculation.”

On this occasion, our think tank is working with La Coop Fédérée to host a side-event on October 8, during which speakers will provide answers to the following issues:
    - How do stakeholders react to agricultural market uncertainty?

    - Which are the tools available to understand and anticipate?

    - Which directions should be taken to regulate price volatility?

    - To what extent a rating agency reserved to agriculture could initiate positive undertakings by the power of information?
The event will provide the opportunity to present the momagri Rating Agency, its first indicators and its development objectives.

In addition, we will contribute to two forums on October 8 and 9:
    - The first forum will take place at 7:15AM on October 8 on the issue “Improving our Understanding of the Markets and the Readability of Agricultural Strategies”1;

    - The second forum will take place at 9:30AM on October 9 and cover market instability. Pierre Pagesse, Chairman of momagri, will be one of the panelists2.
Lastly, momagri is publishing two studies on the Summit website:
    - The first study “Which Policies to Address the Growing Instability of Agricultural Markets” takes an in-depth look at policies promoting agricultural market stability and global trade development. Based on a fresh analysis of the exogenous and endogenous origins of price volatility and understanding of the financialization of agricultural markets, it suggests principles for global agricultural governance.

    - The second study “Improving our Understanding of the Markets and the Readability of Agricultural Strategies” presents the objectives, missions and purpose of the momagri Agency, and its first indicators––the SGPAA (Global Support to Agricultural and Food Production) and the ISA (Agricultural Solvability Indicator).
