A new vision for agriculture
momagri, movement for a world agricultural organization, is a think tank chaired by Pierre Pagesse.
It brings together, managers from the agricultural world and important people from external perspectives,
such as health, development, strategy and defense. Its objective is to promote regulation
of agricultural markets by creating new evaluation tools, such as economic models and indicators,
and by drawing up proposals for an agricultural and international food policy.

One in six Americans suffer from hunger in the United States

10 May 2010

The US give a mirror image of the world: According to a US Department of Agriculture annual report that surveys the state of the country’s food security, close to 50 million Americans are now affected by hunger, including over 16 million children. This represents one in six persons, that is to say an identical ratio of hungry people throughout the world. The Department thus concludes that food aid is now more necessary than ever, while the Food Collection Day was held this Saturday, May 8. Last year, the one-day food drive allowed collecting over 73 million lbs. of food products.

Worse even, according to the latest quadrennial study published by Feeding America––the first national organization to fight hunger with over 200 food banks located throughout the country––the situation is getting more severe, since a 46 percent increase was recorded in past four years. And households in need are not only those without income, as 36 percent of the households served by Feeding American have at least one person working 1.

Such assertions are of capital interest. The state of food security in the US thus proves that hunger is not an issue of poor countries only. All nations are concerned. The scope of these figures is leading us to believe that hunger will be a key political issue in wealthy nations as well, thus shattering the North/South borders already well established in public opinion.

It is now all the more urgent to devise the global policy for agriculture and food, for which momagri has been raising hue and cry for the past five years!
