| | BRIC Nations Adopt Food Security as one of their Permanent Issues | 29 June 2009 | In a May 15, 2009 communication prior to their official meeting in June, Brazil, Russia, India and China (or BRIC nations) outlined the principles of a lasting cooperation process to gain more weight in international negotiations. In the matter of “Trade and Industrial Policy”, the four countries listed agriculture and food security as one of the top subject matters that need teamwork between them, just like science, energy resources and climate change (Item #34). By their action to emphasize food issues, experts from Brazil, Russia, India and China are drawing attention to the fact that food security is becoming a major political concern that is an integral part of a nation’s trade and industrial policies.
